Camden and Greenwich: two different outings

Camden and Greenwich are not neighbouring districts or consecutive parts of one continuous walk. Camden combines markets and a canal north of the centre; Greenwich brings maritime heritage, parkland and museums to the southeast. Visit on separate days or link them by transport, but do not let a simplified tourist map hide the transfer.

Camden Market itself lists Camden Town, Chalk Farm and Camden Road as possible rail approaches. These are not equivalent stations: Camden Town and Chalk Farm are on the Northern line, while Camden Road is London Overground. Choose according to your starting point and check the walk to the specific market area you want.

In Greenwich, Cutty Sark is a DLR reference for the historic area, while Greenwich also has railway services. North Greenwich on Jubilee is by the O2, not outside the Maritime Museum or Observatory. Confusing those names creates an unexpected final leg that must be planned rather than assumed complete when you leave the train.

Both outings involve walking after transport. In Camden, routes link different market areas and the canal; in Greenwich, the park route towards the Observatory adds a hill. A walk suitable for browsing stalls does not necessarily offer the same conditions as a hilltop visit: consider accessibility and energy before combining every attraction.

Camden: market and canal

Check the market page for separate shop, stall and food-area hours: they do not all open and close together. Explore around Camden Lock and then walk beside the canal, respecting other users and local conditions. When busy, avoid stopping your group in narrow passages. For the return, compare Camden Town with alternative approaches instead of assuming the best-known station is always the most convenient for your direction and mobility needs.

  • Save the location of the particular market area you want.

Greenwich: museums and Observatory closure

Royal Museums Greenwich includes the National Maritime Museum, Queen’s House, Cutty Sark and Royal Observatory, with different tickets and activities. Its official page checked in October 2026 announces that the Royal Observatory closes on 2 November 2026 for refurbishment. Do not build a later visit around its interior without checking reopening and alternatives. The historic area and other museums are separate options: verify each venue’s admission instead of buying solely on the umbrella organisation’s name.

  • Check the Observatory date before booking.

Linking both without misleading shortcuts

To link Camden and Greenwich, enter the exact stations in TfL’s planner. One possibility to check is the Northern line from Camden Town towards Bank followed by DLR towards Cutty Sark, depending on services and engineering work. Changes and walking count: there is no invented direct train or fixed door-to-door duration here. A boat to Greenwich offers a different experience but needs its own ticket and timetable; do not confuse it with an automatically included Tube journey.

  • If time is short, choose one district and enjoy it without rushing.
